He Signed My Freedom Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 07

The ache in my chest lingered.

My phone rang as I was wiping away tears.

“Ms. Evelyn Hart, your one-way flight to Tidewatch has been confirmed. Would you like a window seat?”

“Yes. Thank you.”

I hung up just as Lucian pushed open the door.

“Who were you talking to?”

“A friend.”

He didn’t press. He just stood by the bed and said, “We’ve clarified what happened. Vivian prepared the juice.”

I looked at him, waiting.

“She didn’t know the children were sensitive to wolfsbane. This ends here.”

So that was the difference between being loved and not.

If it was me, he could order guards to force poison down my throat. If it was Vivian, a simple “she didn’t know” was enough to erase all responsibility.

I used to have so many questions I wanted to ask him.

Why didn’t you check the ingredient logs first? Why didn’t you listen when the Healer tried to stop you? Why didn’t you hesitate for even a second as you watched my wolf collapse?

But in the end, only one word remained.

“Fine.”

Lucian seemed displeased by my calm. His brows drew together.

“Next week, the pack academy is holding a parent-child wilderness training. Vivian and I will go with the children. You can return to the manor by yourself.”

He waited for me to protest.

I just nodded. “Understood.”

His phone rang. It was the territorial office. He turned and left without another word.

After the door closed, I unfolded my palm. My nails had cut four deep crescents into the skin.
