He Signed My Freedom Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 14
When I woke in the medical wing, every breath was a fresh agony.
The Healer told me I had three broken ribs and my right leg had been sliced open by the metal. Because the wolfsbane was still interfering with my healing, the wound was far worse than it would have been for a normal werewolf.
He had removed seven shards of metal, one of them grazing a major nerve. Even if the bones healed, I might still suffer from pain in cold weather, and long-distance shifting could leave me with a permanent limp.
“A werewolf’s healing isn’t a reset,” the Healer said grimly. “The body remembers every treatment it was forced to delay.”
I asked him to write every diagnosis into the official record. Lucian could dismiss it with a simple “you’ll just have to bear it,” but the Registry would remember what he had asked his Luna to endure for the sake of Vivian’s dance.
“Ten more minutes, and your wolf might have permanently severed sensation to your leg to save your heart.”
I stared at the ceiling, without a single tear left to cry.
Three days later, Lucian came to discharge me from the hospital.
He stood in the doorway and looked at the brace on my leg.
“Vivian still has to lead the dance. I couldn’t let her leg be injured.”
