He Signed My Freedom Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 15

I looked up at him.

“So you were the one who had to suffer instead.” His tone was calm, matter-of-fact. “You’re no longer participating in pack training. A slower recovery for you won’t have much impact on Highridge.”

For the first time, I saw with perfect clarity that this man had never considered my well-being important.

“What if I had died that day?” I asked. “Would you have cared?”

Lucian frowned but didn’t answer.

He set a black card on the bedside table—the access card for the Luna’s household budget.

“This is compensation. As long as you behave and take care of the pups, you can retain Luna privileges for the rest of your life, even without the completed mark.”

I turned the card over in my hand. It wasn’t a gift. It was nothing more than spending access limited to the pack manor, with every transaction logged in the Vane family accounts. In my last life, I had mistaken that kind of supervised privilege for a promise that he would support me forever.

“My Hart trust, my premarital lands, and my private income have all been confirmed by the Registry,” I said. “Once the claim cancellation takes effect, I won’t touch Highridge’s public funds, and I won’t need the Vane family to provide for me.”
