He Signed My Freedom Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 32
After Vivian gained actual control of the pack manor, some of the staff began following her lead and treating the children with carelessness.
No one took Noah and Iris to the pack academy on time anymore, and no one prepared food suited to their constitutions. More often than not, they were left to eat leftovers after the main table was cleared.
The reports from Highridge’s guards showed both children growing visibly thinner.
Iris once quietly reminded Vivian that she had promised to take them out for ice cream.
Vivian was in the middle of applying makeup for the Moon Festival and didn’t even turn around.
“Can’t you see I’m busy?”
Noah said she had promised last week, too.
Vivian spun around sharply.
“All you do is demand things. Get back to your room.”
Iris started to cry.
Vivian pinched the girl hard on the thigh and warned her that if she told Lucian, she would throw away every one of her toys.
That footage made my breath catch in my throat.
I remembered Iris at birth—barely four pounds, her wolf aura so weak it was almost inaudible. I had stayed in the medical wing for seven nights straight, terrified her heart would stop.
Ember felt my wavering but didn’t decide for me.
I messaged the Tidewatch registrar in charge of child protection and asked for an update. I was told that the Highridge Registry had already received the guards’ reports, and that the moment Lucian returned to the territory, he would be required to investigate.
The next day, Lucian stayed at the manor for breakfast for once.
