She Framed Me As Unfit So I’ll See Her In Court Chapter 30
That night, after Maya had fallen asleep, my phone rang.
Unknown number.
I answered without speaking.
There was a long silence before a hoarse voice finally came through.
“Nia… it’s me. Caleb.”
I looked out the window and didn’t hang up.
“Why did you have to go this far?” he said, his anger forced low. “Sloan has lost everything. Now the court won’t even restore my unsupervised visitation with Maya. You ruined her, and you ruined my chance to be with Maya, too.”
“That is the consequence of your actions.”
“And that agency, too!” His voice suddenly shot up. “You were the one who gave them those recordings, weren’t you?”
“Yes.”
His breathing caught.
I added evenly, “Submitted anonymously. Evidence that you abused and threatened Sloan belongs where it belongs. As for what she did to me, the police and the courts will handle that.”
“You just wanted to destroy my family!”
My grip tightened around the phone, and my last life flashed through my mind.
Maya’s face, red from crying, when they took her away.
The cold tiles of the bathroom floor.
And my mother, wearing herself down after my death until she, too, failed to survive that winter.
“You destroyed mine first.”
Silence fell on the line.
I told him, each word distinct, “Last time, you and your family used public opinion and lies to turn me into a drunk, a lunatic, a woman unfit to be a mother. You took Maya away and drove me to suicide.”
Caleb didn’t deny it.
“A few months after I died, my mother also died from grief and exhaustion. You won custody and lived in your mansion, while my family paid with two lives.”
“Nia, what are you talking about…”
For the first time, there was fear in his voice.
“I’m telling you that what you’ve lost now doesn’t come close to what you owe me.”
Only his rough breathing remained on the line.
I didn’t wait for an apology, and I didn’t need him to believe me.
“Caleb, I will never forgive you.”
Then I hung up and blocked the number.
