She Framed Me As Unfit So I’ll See Her In Court Chapter 41

After the school’s written correction went out, Caleb’s lawyer proposed settlement again.

This time, the word *generous* was nowhere in the call.

“My client is willing to cover Ms. Carter’s legal fees arising from this matter, the cost of security equipment, and Maya’s counseling expenses.”

My lawyer looked at me.

“There is also a payment for damages.”

I didn’t answer right away.

Money could not make Maya forget that bottle. It could not erase the look on my mother’s face when the doorbell rang.

But refusing to make them pay a financial price would not make the harm nobler, either.

“No confidentiality agreement.”

Silence on the other end.

I continued, “Sloan and Caleb must each sign a factual correction. It must be posted on every public account where the original video, livestream, and screenshots of the ad were spread. The length of time it stays pinned must be written into the agreement.”

“They may not replace acknowledgment with phrases like *misunderstanding*, *panicked concern*, or *misled*.”

Opposing counsel asked, “Acknowledge what, specifically?”

My lawyer pushed the evidence index to the edge of the table.

“Acknowledge that the full video proves Nia was not drunk; acknowledge that Beth placed the bottle at Sloan’s direction; acknowledge that the fake ad caused a stranger to go to the residence where Nia and Maya lived; acknowledge that Caleb, knowing the police were already involved, still demanded that Nia stop reporting.”

Each point matched a piece of original evidence.

The other side was quiet for a long time.

“We’ll need to discuss it.”

“Please do,” I said. “If not, we’ll try it publicly in civil court.”

Three days later, the signed agreement arrived at the law office.

There was no nondisclosure clause.

The portion of the damages belonging to Maya was placed into a court-supervised trust account. The rest covered security, moving expenses, and medical examinations for my mother.

Caleb had once wanted to use money to buy my silence.

In the end, his money did not buy away my lawsuit.

It only paid the bill for the damage he had caused.
