After Six Years The Alpha Begs For My Return Chapter 32
“What are your conditions?”
“Conditions?” he repeated. He rested the envelope on his knee, one hand on top of it, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled pack of cigarettes. He put one between his lips but didn’t light it.
“I’m not talking about conditions for the donation. There’s something else first. I have a daughter.”
The words came out of nowhere. I was stunned.
“The year I left the pack, she had just turned three. I couldn’t keep her with me, so I had someone take her to a foster family in another state and change her records.” He bit down on the cigarette, his voice muffled. “All these years, I haven’t dared look for her. Haven’t even kept a photo. I was afraid old enemies would trace her through her scent or the records.”
“This year, they found something growing in my lung. My wolf is starting to decline, too. The physician says I have maybe a year.”
He turned to look at me, no self-pity in his eyes, only the heavy weight of trust.
“After I die, I need you to take over her guardianship. You won’t have to spend your own money. I’ve left her enough to get through college. She’s fifteen now and hasn’t had her first shift yet. After I’m gone, her medical forms, school papers, and territorial files will all need a reliable adult’s signature.”
“In my will, I’ve named you as her proposed guardian.”
