I Married The Disabled Billionaire Then My Family Begged Me To Come Back Chapter 05
The Trap Begins
For the next full month, I move into Adrian Sterling’s bedroom.
From the hallway, the servants hear things crashing against the floor.
They hear low, muffled groans, and probably think Adrian is taking all his anger out on me.
The truth is the complete opposite.
Inside the room, I sit calmly on the couch with several thin acupuncture needles between my fingers.
One by one, I place them into key points along Adrian’s legs.
As for all those loud crashes?
That’s just Adrian smashing cheap vases on the floor for sound effects.
“Damn.”
When the last needle goes in, Adrian’s brows pull together.
A thin layer of sweat breaks out across his forehead.
I raise an eyebrow and hand him a towel.
“You feel that?”
Adrian takes the towel and wipes his face.
For the first time, there’s a sharp light in his dark eyes.
“Yeah. Feels like a thousand ants chewing through my bones. Still better than feeling nothing.”
“That means it’s working. Your nerves are reconnecting.”
I pull the needles out with steady hands.
“Give it another two weeks. You’ll walk like a normal person.”
Adrian watches my hands. A slow smile touches his mouth.
“If Manhattan finds out what you can do, every old billionaire in the city will be lined up outside the Sterling estate.”
I snort and roll the needles back into their cloth case.
“Save the flattery. We had a deal.”
“Your legs are almost fixed. What about everything outside?”
The lazy look on Adrian’s face disappears.
Over the past month, everything outside has changed fast.
Julian Sterling, the illegitimate son who’s been hiding in Adrian’s shadow for years, finally makes his move.
He uses Adrian’s “paralysis” and “unstable temper” as the perfect excuse and starts pulling board members to his side.
He starts grabbing power inside Sterling Group.
And the Hales and Silas? They’re like flies smelling blood.
The second they see Julian rising, they throw away what little shame they have left and cling to him hard.
“I have everything on Julian.”
Adrian leans back in his wheelchair, his eyes full of contempt.
“Embezzlement. Fake accounts. Illegal transfers.”
“My assistant locked it all down.”
“As for the Hales and Cole Group…”
“They were so desperate to prove loyalty to Julian that they poured most of their available cash into his so-called overseas energy project.”
I laugh.
That overseas energy project isn’t real.
It’s a shell fund I set up under the name X, with Adrian working behind the scenes.
Every dollar the Hales and Silas put in is already sitting in Adrian’s pocket.
They won’t even get a splash back.
My phone lights up suddenly.
Stella sends me a gold digital invitation.
[Claire. Tomorrow night. Julian’s celebration dinner for taking over Sterling Group.]
[It’s also my engagement party with Silas.]
[I know Adrian’s stuck in bed and needs you for everything.]
[But as a former Hale daughter, you should still come see for yourself.]
[After tomorrow, there won’t be a place left in Manhattan for you or Adrian.]
Every word screams smug little winner.
Adrian glances at the screen, then lifts an eyebrow at me.
“Need your husband to help you crash the party?”
