“Drake, how can you be this useless? You can’t even cast the smallest wind blade?”
Lani’s voice suddenly rang out in the distance.
Then came Drake’s stifled reply.
“I have an old injury. It affects my power.”
“Why didn’t you say so sooner?”
“…”
“Forget it. Good thing I have Locke and Kieran. If it were just you, I’d be dead today.”
Locke didn’t sound much better.
“Lani, we’ve only just taken human form. The Threshold is too dangerous. We should find a stronger companion to travel with, or we could really die here.”
Kieran spoke up as well.
“He’s right. Lani, don’t think having the three of us is enough. There are too many high-level magical beasts here. If we run into one, we might be able to protect ourselves, but we might not be able to protect you. The safer move is to find more people.”
“Why are you all so scared before we’ve even fought anything? I have three guardians. Am I supposed to be worse off than people with only one?”
“Lani, we’re trying to protect you…”
“Enough. Even if we do find someone strong, they might not be willing to travel with me. Everyone in here is afraid someone else will steal their opportunities.”
