The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 18

“That’s exactly why we should look for strong people.”

“What do you mean?”

“There are more of us. Even if they get an opportunity, we can just take it from them.”

“…That’s true.”

The moment she finished speaking, the ground shook violently.

A great mass of snake-vines burst from below, weaving together into a giant net that trapped all four of them.

They were all dumbstruck.

Lani drew her sword and slashed at the vines.

“What is this disgusting thing? Stay away from me!”

The other three guardians attacked at once.

But the more they cut, the more snake-vines swarmed them.

They quickly realized something was wrong and turned to run.

The three of them shielded Lani, fighting and retreating at the same time.

But everywhere they went, there were more snake-vines.

As far as the eye could see, it was an entire living forest of them.

How could anyone fight a forest?

Lani’s hand was shaking.

She cut one down, and two more immediately coiled toward her.

Drake relied on his physical strength. Even without his powers, he tore many of them apart with brute force.

Locke used his flight to barely manage to dodge.

Kieran stayed right behind Lani, never moving a single step away.

They were all doing their best.

But with their current strength, they couldn’t possibly handle the snake-vines.

Just as they were about to be bound and strangled, a burst of white light exploded from deep within the vine nest.

A pale arc of sword light tore through layers of vines, shattering a vast swath of them.

Staring at the light, Lani murmured blankly, “That’s Meredith.”

I walked out of the snake-vine nest, covered in their blood.

The moment I saw Lani, I stopped short, too.
