Abandon You Choose Dragon Chapter 15
By the time he reached the western edge of the territory, the house was empty.
A neighbor spotted him, drenched in sweat, and called out casually, “Oh, here for the show? You’re too late! They finished the ceremony this evening and left. No reception, no dinner—said they were heading back to the city.”
“Young beastkin these days, always in a rush. Won’t even let the neighbors have a drink…”
Ash stood in the doorway, chest heaving.
He pushed the door open. The rooms were spotless.
A note sat on the table, pinned beneath a water glass.
He picked it up. One line, in her handwriting:
Thank you, Moon God, for this destined match.
Ash clutched the slip of paper and slowly sank into a crouch.
In the distance, music finally rose—bright, festive melodies, one after another.
Ash crouched on the ground. He didn’t look up.
He didn’t know how he made it back.
The banquet was roaring with noise. Iris’s father clapped him on the shoulder and said, “It’s a happy day—cheer up.”
Liam brought over a glass and said, “Chloe’s waiting for you to toast.”
Chloe sat at the head table in a fresh dress, a small smile on her lips, flowers still pinned to her rabbit ears.
He picked up the glass and drank. One after another after another.
The next day, he went back to the city.
Every message he sent me went unanswered. The last one wouldn’t even go through.
He went to my apartment. The landlord said I’d moved out three days ago.
He called every friend we had in common. No one knew where I’d gone.
When James’s call came, his voice was raw.
“Ash, have you found her? My mom—she jumped into the river yesterday. They pulled her out. She’s still in the hospital.”
