After He Blinded Me The Don Begged For Forgiveness Chapter 06

Soren’s voice dropped, sharp with anger.

“Anneliese, even if you hate me—hit me, scream at me—I’ll take it. But don’t use the child to vent.”

“I’ve kept a room for her these past few years. I’ve been waiting for you both to come home.”

I said nothing. There was no point.

I picked up my cane and went home.

He followed close behind.

“Anneliese, didn’t you hear what I said?”

“Don’t use the child to—”

I pushed the door open. He rushed in, snatching the yellowed death certificate off the table.

His whole body went rigid.

I knew he had seen it. I didn’t stop him.

Soren’s breathing came fast and shallow.

“What is this? Anneliese, tell me.”

“Once, you could lay your hands on Serena and her child.”

“Now, to keep me from seeing my daughter, you’d actually curse your own child?”

“Anneliese, you don’t deserve to be the mother of my daughter!”

His voice grew rougher and rougher. In the end, he tore the paper to shreds.

He lunged forward and nearly crushed my wrist in his grip.

The pain made my hand go numb. I yanked it free.

I gave a low, cold laugh.

“Don’t touch me!”

But he heard nothing. He grabbed me by the shoulders again.

“Tell me. Where are you hiding my daughter?”

“I’ll find her!”

“Anneliese, with a heart as black as yours, there’s no way you could raise my daughter properly.”

His voice was a needle in my ear. I roared with everything I had.

“She’s dead!”

I swung at him with all my strength, but I couldn’t see. My fingertips only grazed his jaw.

I broke completely. I couldn’t stop screaming.

“She died four years ago!”

“She never tasted a drop of milk. She never made a single cry.”

“She was born—already a corpse!”

“Her name was Caroline Vance. She had my surname. She had nothing—nothing—to do with you Costellos!”

I clutched at my chest as it twisted with pain. My breath came in heavy gasps.

I forced out a mocking laugh.

“And I have Serena to thank for that. The blanket I wrapped Caroline in—I got it from the church soup kitchen on the day of her children’s baptism.”

“I sat in the funeral home all night holding Caroline. Where were you?”

“You were hosting your guests. You were throwing a baptism feast for your bastards!”

“Soren Costello, do you have the gall to ask me now?”

His lips trembled. Slowly, his hands fell away.

He shook his head in stupefied denial.

“You’re lying to me, Anneliese. You’re lying.”

“Her prenatal checkups were perfect. There’s no way she could be dead!”

“You just want me to feel guilty. You want me to send Serena and the children away. You—”

There was something lodged in his chest like a stone. He couldn’t even get the words out.
