After I Lost Weight They Knelt And Begged For Forgiveness Chapter 06
Three words. And the entire room went on mute.
Zach’s wine glass wobbled in his hand.
“You said your name was…?”
“Sienna Reed?”
“No way.”
He whipped out his phone and pulled up the video from the group chat.
The girl on the screen was nearly 220 pounds, her features buried under folds of fat.
The woman in front of him was slender, collarbones sharp.
He looked at the screen. Then at me.
Then back at the screen.
He did it a good few times.
“The eyes… the eyes are actually the same.”
A girl in the corner spoke up quietly.
“That mole next to her nose is still there.”
That was all it took. My identity was confirmed.
The ones who’d mocked hardest just moments ago now had absolutely priceless expressions on their faces.
The guy who’d joked about the service elevator ducked his head and gulped his water.
The one who’d said the elevator would overload suddenly found the tablecloth fascinating.
A couple of them started quietly deleting their messages from the chat.
Too bad. I’d already screenshotted every last one.
Ryan was staring at me, dead-on. Like he was meeting me for the first time.
“That’s really you?”
“When did you lose the weight?”
There was something almost accusatory in his tone.
Like the fact that I hadn’t told him first was some deliberate move to humiliate him.
I looked at him coolly.
“Any of your business?”
Ryan choked on it.
I could tell he’d never once imagined that the Sienna who used to blush just standing near him would ever speak to him like that.
Ashley snapped out of her stupor next.
She instinctively let go of Ryan’s arm. Then immediately grabbed it back.
“So she lost weight. Big deal.”
“Who’s to say it wasn’t plastic surgery, lipo, and every filler in the book.”
Not a single person backed her up.
The guys were still staring at me. The awe in their eyes wasn’t something they could hide.
Jenna’s face went uglier.
She forced out a smile.
“Wow, Sienna. Huge transformation.”
“No wonder none of us recognized you.”
“That’s kind of harsh, though. You lost all that weight and didn’t even mention it in the chat?”
I looked at her.
“If I’d said something ahead of time, how would I have gotten front-row seats to tonight’s little performance?”
The smile locked on Jenna’s face.
Someone jumped in to smooth things over.
“Come on, we’re all old classmates. It’s just some joking around.”
“Sienna, you’re gorgeous now. You’re not going to hold this against us, are you?”
“Exactly. Everyone was just having fun.”
I looked at the shirt on the wall. At the scale.
“Reposting the bullying video was fun.”
“Bringing a scale was fun.”
“Turning my trauma into a betting pool. That’s fun, too?”
Nobody said anything.
If I were still 220 pounds tonight, none of them would have felt an ounce of shame.
They were only shutting up now because I’d become beautiful. Not because they’d realized they were wrong.
Jenna’s eyes went red. She played the wounded party.
“Sienna, that’s a really hurtful thing to say.”
“I only wanted us to reminisce about our high school days.”
“If you didn’t like it, I’ll just take it down.”
She reached for the shirt on the wall.
In her rush, the paper sign fluttered to the floor.
【NO FEEDING THE PIG.】
Landed right at her feet.
I looked down.
“Don’t take it down.”
“You planned a weigh-in, didn’t you?”
Jenna’s expression froze.
“That was just a joke.”
“I’m taking it seriously.”
I walked over to the scale in my heels.
Everyone unconsciously gathered around.
I stepped out of my shoes and calmly stepped on.
The digits flickered, then settled.
100 lbs.
A collective gasp swept through the room.
I put my shoes back on and turned to Ryan.
“One hundred pounds.”
“That shouldn’t send you to the ER, right?”
Ryan’s throat worked.
Ashley’s face darkened instantly.
I tilted my chin at him.
“Didn’t you say if I dared to come, you’d hug me in front of everyone?”
“Go on.”
“A bet’s a bet.”
