After I Saved Him My CEO Said We Were Strangers Chapter 11
My tears came at once, and once they started, they wouldn’t stop.
“I thought…” I said, my hand shaking as I gripped my wineglass. “I thought he liked me. At least a little.”
The wind tangled my hair around my face.
I swiped at my cheeks, unable to tell if they were wet from tears or spilled wine.
“I loved him for nine years.”
“How many nine years does a person get?”
“And I didn’t even deserve an explanation?”
“When he asked me to stay, I thought I’d finally carved out a little place for myself in his heart. When he held me, I thought maybe, slowly, he would fall in love with me.”
“It was all in my head.”
I couldn’t go on. I tilted my head back and swallowed another mouthful of liquor.
It burned all the way down to my stomach.
“I even thought… I thought there were times when we really loved each other.”
Tessa pulled me into a hug, gently patting my back without a word.
Nora slammed her glass down on the table.
“Men are trash.”
The declaration startled a laugh out of me, which quickly dissolved back into sobs.
That night, I drank myself into a stupor. They had to half-carry me to my room.
My dreams were full of Reed.
