After Losing My Memory Don Begins A Good Husband. Chapter 08

The doctor’s words struck Ricardo’s nerves like a sledgehammer.

He looked at me on the hospital bed—unguarded, even offering a polite smile to a stranger.

A surge of painfully complex emotion welled up inside him.

There was the anguish of a knife twisting in his chest, but beyond that, a survivor’s guilty relief.

She’d forgotten him.

Forgotten all three years of humiliation, deception, and betrayal.

Forgotten the child that couldn’t be saved.

Forgotten the cat that died horribly in the street.

It meant he could turn the page completely and start fresh.

“Sir, are you alright? You look awfully pale.”

I noticed him drifting and offered a gentle reminder.

Ricardo snapped back, drew a deep breath, and forced a tender smile.

“I’m fine.”

“Elina, I’m the person you love most in the world. We’ve been married three years—happily. Very happily.”

“You were in a terrible accident, but it’s okay. I’ll be right here while you remember.”

I nodded vaguely, half-understanding.

“I see. Thank you for being here.”

“But… why does it look like you feel guilty when you look at me?”

Ricardo’s heart clenched violently. He averted his eyes.

“No. I just feel sorry for what you’ve been through.”

Over the days that followed, Ricardo practically moved into the hospital.

He fed me by hand, bathed me, and told me stories of our “past”—all the sweetness we’d supposedly shared.

Naturally, those stories contained no Valentina. No impossible mother-in-law. No group chat called “The Real Family.”

He wove me a flawless fairy tale of love.

Until one day, when Giada and Massimo forced their way past security and into my room.

Giada dropped a fruit basket on the cabinet with a thud and let out a sharp laugh.

“Elina, what an actress you are.”

“Amnesia? Really? That soap-opera nonsense? You just want to chain my brother to your side.”

I looked blankly at this aggressive young woman.

“Who are you? Do we know each other?”

Massimo sneered from behind her.

“Oscar-worthy performance, sis. Truly.”

“You think playing amnesiac makes the stuff online disappear? You’re still the scheming homewrecker you always were.”

I frowned, instinctively repulsed by both of them.

“If you’ve come here to pick a fight, please leave. I need to rest.”

Giada wouldn’t let up. She lunged forward to yank away my blanket.

“Oh, you’re really committed to the act, huh? Just because my brother’s protecting you, you think you can—”

“What the hell are you doing!”

Ricardo appeared in the doorway holding a payment receipt, and his face went dark with fury.

He crossed the room in two strides and shoved Giada away.

“Did I not make myself clear? You are not to set foot in this room!”

Giada stumbled, her eyes instantly rimming red.

“You’re shoving me—your own sister—for this faker? Do you even know Valentina’s been crying every single day?”

Massimo couldn’t hold back either.

“Ricardo, wake up. She’s insane. Are you really going to spend the rest of your life babysitting a broken woman?”

Ricardo pointed at the door, his voice cold enough to freeze bone.

“Get out. If I ever see either of you near Elina again, I will destroy you.”

The murderous look in his eyes sent them both scurrying from the room.

Ricardo turned back to me, his face tight with worry.

“Elina, don’t listen to them. They’re just jealous of what we have.”

I looked at him and shook my head gently.

“They called me a homewrecker. Is that true?”

Ricardo dropped to his knees beside my bed, gripping my hands, desperate in his denial.

“No. Of course not.”

“You are my lawfully wedded wife. The only woman I have ever loved.”

I studied the pleading in his eyes and didn’t press further.

I simply drew my hand back, unhurried.

“Alright. I believe you.”
