After Six Years The Alpha Begs For My Return Chapter 23
After a few seconds, she finally asked, “Gideon, did you ever love me?”
Gideon lowered his eyes and answered with three words.
“I’m sorry.”
Ophelia laughed.
It was a sound utterly unlike her usual frail, innocent act. Her lips curved, but her eyes were empty. Even the vulnerable wolf-scent she used to draw sympathy was gone.
“I’m sorry?” she repeated, her voice rising, sharp enough to draw a glance from the nurses’ station down the hall. “Gideon, after six years, you’re telling me you’re sorry?”
She stepped forward and grabbed his sleeve, her fingers white with force.
“That woman left the pack for six years. You took care of her mother for her, stayed close to the Calloway family for her, and propped up my hollow title of Luna. Did you think I didn’t know what you were doing? You thought she would come back one day. You thought that as long as that old pact wasn’t completely erased from the elders’ records, she would still be yours.”
Her scent sharpened with fury.
“But Gideon, she doesn’t love you anymore. If she did, she never would have dissolved the pact, severed her pack link, and left without a single word!”
