Among All The Stars I Found You Chapter 15
The day I found out Juliette had returned, I felt instinctively that my time with Preston was running out.
I couldn’t bear it.
So I secretly put a little something—an aphrodisiac supplement I’d bought online—into his soup.
In the middle of the night, I slipped into his room wearing my shortest nightgown.
And then things spiraled out of control.
Before dawn, I crept back to my own room.
The next morning, he had seemed distracted. After a long, awkward silence, he had finally asked, in a roundabout way, if I had slept in Leo’s room that night.
I said yes.
He had visibly relaxed.
And I had relaxed, too.
I never expected to get pregnant.
He stared at me for a long while.
My scalp began to prickle under his intense gaze.
“How was I supposed to know this would happen?” I said defensively.
“You never touched me. Besides thinking you didn’t love me, I was starting to worry there was something… physically wrong with you.”
Preston let out an exasperated laugh.
Then he lowered his head and kissed me again, not letting go until we were both breathless.
“If you weren’t pregnant, I could show you right now that there’s nothing wrong with me.”
My face burned even hotter.
Of course I knew there wasn’t.
After that night, I’d barely been able to walk straight.
There was a genuine grievance in his tone.
“The reason I never touched you wasn’t because I didn’t love you.”
“It was the opposite. It was because I cared about you too much.”
“At the time, I was living as Patrick. I was terrified that the man you liked was him.”
I froze.
So that was it.
I couldn’t help but laugh.
“What I felt for Patrick was gratitude, and maybe some admiration. But it wasn’t love.”
“The man I lived with every day for seven years was you, Preston.”
“So of course the person I fell in love with was you.”
Preston pulled me into a tight embrace.Â
