At My Baby Shower He Celebrated Another Woman’s Child Chapter 07

“Take a good look.”

I lifted the footprint card from the box and held it up for the room to see.

“This is the child you all claimed didn’t count as lost. I suffered a placental abruption in a holding cell. The hospital called her father and grandmother over and over, and no one answered.”

I turned to Graham.

“While she was dying on an operating table, you were comforting Sadie. And now you’re standing on your own daughter’s ashes to celebrate another child’s life.”

Graham dropped to his knees, clutching the box to his chest.

“I’m sorry… Nora, I didn’t know. I swear, I didn’t know…”

“You knew I was pregnant. You just chose not to care.”

Brooke had gone pale, but she still stepped forward.

“Do you really have to ruin today of all days? Clara’s ceremony isn’t even over!”

My mother stared at the urn, a flicker of shock in her eyes, before she lowered her voice. “Nora, go home. Sadie can’t handle this kind of shock.”

My father’s voice was dark. “There are guests here. Don’t make this any uglier.”

I let out a sharp, sudden laugh.

Iris’s ashes were right in front of them, and they were still worried about the party, the inheritance, and Sadie’s feelings.

“Who said I came here to make a scene?”

I tucked the footprint card away and turned toward the closed doors of the banquet hall.

“I came to deliver gifts. The first was for Graham. The second, of course, is for Sadie.”

Sadie’s head jerked up, her face turning a ghostly white.

I raised a hand, signaling the staff to open the doors.

“At a family gathering like this, how could the child’s grandmother possibly not attend?”
