Betrayed By My Best Friend I Revealed My Billionaire Heiress Identity Chapter 02
Chapter 2:The Knife in My Back
“Sloane, don’t be mad at her. Elara’s just a brainless psycho. I’ve been sick of her for ages.”
“If she wasn’t stuck to me like a leech every single day—scaring off everyone else under the excuse of ‘protecting’ me- I would’ve been in your circle a long time ago.”
“Today was just you messing around with me, and she had to barge in like a rabid dog. It’s disgusting.”
Boom.
Blood drips from my forehead into a puddle. A red bloom spreads across the water.
I step out from behind the concrete pillar. I stare at the girl I risked my life to protect for two years.
“What did you just say?” My voice comes out raw. Shaking.
Maya flinches. Guilt flashes across her face.
But then she steps back—a big, dramatic step—like I’m toxic waste.
“Elara, since you heard it, I’ll stop pretending.”
“Stop following me around. I don’t want to be your friend. I never did.”
“Someone like Sloane—with real status, real connections—that’s who I want to be around.”
“Look at yourself. You’re broke. You’re violent. You don’t even act like a girl.”
“Honestly? Being your friend was embarrassing.”
I stand frozen.
Every word is a dull knife, stabbing into my chest over and over.
I don’t understand.
How can someone flip like this so fast? Become a complete stranger?
Or maybe—she was never real with me. Not from the start.
Seeing me standing there like a kicked dog, Sloane looks thrilled.
“Aww, poor thing. Your only friend just dumped you! Ha!”
“Sloane, let’s go. I think the rain’s getting worse.”
Maya doesn’t look at me again. She shields Sloane with the umbrella and walks away.
That’s when I speak.
“Maya. Don’t regret.”
Her steps pause for one second.
Just one second. Then she’s gone.
Back at the run-down apartment I rent near school, I pull out the first-aid kit like it’s routine.
The alcohol stings my wounds. I hiss through my teeth. But the pain doesn’t come close to what’s inside my chest.
When I first came to Westbrook, I hid my identity as a Kensington heiress. I wanted to experience a normal life.
I saw Maya—poor, hardworking, determined—and I made her my best friend.
When she couldn’t afford the good meals at the cafeteria, I’d order extra and pretend I wasn’t hungry.
When she couldn’t pay for study materials, I’d lie and say I won a little cash from a scratch-off and cover it for her.
When creeps harassed her off-campus, I grabbed a brick and chased them off.
I gave her everything I had. She threw it away like garbage.
Fine. Two years of my life, wasted on someone who didn’t deserve it.
We went our separate ways.
That night, I cry myself to sleep.
The next morning, I wake up with a fever.
