From A Humiliating Bet To The Boss He Can’t Have Chapter 06
Sloane’s voice suddenly cut in on the line.
“Don’t let her lead the conversation. Ask her if she doesn’t care, why is she even answering your call?”
So she was there, too.
Grant didn’t tell her to shut up.
I hung up immediately. Over the next ten minutes, he called from three different numbers, and I blocked each one.
Then I forwarded the call log to my lawyer.
“Please inform Mr. Whitmore’s legal counsel that my work is governed by my employment contract, and my residence by my lease. Any further communication must go through legal channels. He needs to stop harassing me.”
At the private club, Grant stared at the phone that had rejected his calls over and over, his expression dark.
Sloane held her glass, still sounding unconcerned.
“She’s just playing hard to get. She wants to force you to chase her to Chicago.”
Grant looked up at her.
“She blocked me.”
“She’s trying to provoke you.”
“She settled every single cent. She even paid the last month’s utilities.”
“That was for your benefit.”
“She signed the long-term position and a one-year lease.”
Sloane paused. “Contracts can still be broken.”
Grant suddenly asked, “Sloane, how far does she have to go before you’ll believe she really doesn’t want me anymore?”
The table fell silent.
The people who had been agreeing with her a moment ago all looked away. Sloane parted her lips, but not a word came out.
Just then, the assistant came in carrying my old laptop.
“Mr. Whitmore, we recovered the archived emails. Ms. Ellis passed the interviews for the Chicago headquarters twice before, but both times she gave up the position herself.”
