From A Humiliating Bet To The Boss He Can’t Have Chapter 16

“I can change,” Grant said, following me. “I’ll explain the group chat and the prenup publicly. I’ll tell everyone this was my fault.”

“I don’t need that.”

“I can move to Chicago and stay here with you.”

“I don’t need that, either.”

He stopped dead.

“You said that before, too. When you removed me from Lily’s emergency contact list, you said you would put me back. When you made me record every household expense, you said it was only to avoid misunderstandings. When they accused me of planning a lavish wedding, you said you would look into it. Every time you apologized, the next trial still came.”

“Then what exactly do you want me to do?” He finally lost his composure. “Tell me. If you say it, I’ll do it.”

“I already told you. I don’t like being tested. I wanted to be named in the family’s legal documents instead of carrying a mother’s responsibilities while being removable at any time. And I told you I had my own career—that I wasn’t someone waiting to depend on you.”

Grant’s lips trembled. “I understand now.”

I looked at him calmly.

“I said it over and over before. You never heard me.”

I took a step back, widening the final distance between us.

“Now that I don’t want to say it anymore, suddenly you’re ready to listen.”
