From Now On I Grow Toward Spring Chapter 06

The driver glanced back, startled.

“But ma’am, the airport is in the opposite direction. Are you sure?”

I nodded.

“I’m sure.”

On my phone, my mother was still sending messages in the family group chat.

“Perfect. That nut shop Sofia likes is near there. Pick up a few bags for her while you’re at it.”

My father followed up: “Buy them and come straight back. Sofia’s birthday party is next week, and with her hand hurt, she can’t do much. You still need to help her write the invitations.”

I gave a short laugh and tapped *Leave Conversation*.

Sliding my finger down the screen, I opened a message from Ethan.

“Talia, don’t forget to send me your flight number. I’ll pick you up. Everyone’s looking forward to your welcome party.”

Reading his words, I finally started to feel warm again.

When I’d turned down the job offer years ago, Ethan had said the firm would always have a place for me.

When I reached out to him this time, I hadn’t really expected anything to come of it.

Even my own parents—and Matteo, the man I’d lived with for five years—couldn’t remember my birthday. I hadn’t expected a near-stranger to remember a polite offer made years ago.

But not only had he approved my application almost immediately, he had also arranged the welcome party I was five years late for.
