Ghost Me Once More And I’m Gone Chapter 07

Ghost Me Once More And I’m Gone Chapter 07

Back in the United States, everything fell apart.

My parents seemed to age several years overnight.

They looked exhausted.

They sighed all day.

Chloe moved thousands of miles away to another city and took everything she owned with her.

Before leaving, she had a massive fight with my parents.

Dad got so angry they nearly called an ambulance.

“If you leave, don’t come back!”

“You are only one year older than Emma, and for all these years you got the best of everything. What more could you possibly want?”

“We spoiled you rotten!”

Mom was equally disappointed.

“Go wherever you want. You don’t need to tell us.”

“This house will always be waiting for Emma.”

“We owe her. And so do you.”

Ethan didn’t try to stop Chloe.

He only gathered every photo, gift, and keepsake connected to her and threw them away.

As if he had finally decided to cut himself off from the past.

Half a month later, Ethan showed up in London.

I had just gotten home from work.

London was in the middle of a rare heavy snowfall.

He stood outside my apartment building in a gray coat, snow collecting on his shoulders and hair.

The man who used to complain about driving across the city to pick me up had taken a red-eye flight across the Atlantic to find me.

I felt nothing.

The love, anger, humiliation, and resentment had all been left behind on the morning my plane took off from the United States.

There was nothing left.

“Emma!”

His eyes lit up the moment he saw me.

I stopped.

I didn’t speak.

Ethan’s voice was hoarse.

“I’m sorry. I contacted some of your old coworkers and finally found out roughly where you were living.”

“I came because I need one chance to make this right.”

He hurriedly pulled a ring box from his coat pocket.

“I kept the ring.”

“If you’ll come back, we can still get married.”

Even now, he seemed convinced that I would eventually return to him.

I looked at him carefully one last time.

“Ethan.”

Hope flashed across his face.

“Tell me. Whatever you need me to do, I’ll do it.”

“Five years was enough.”

“We said what needed to be said. What ended is already over.”

“You coming to London doesn’t change anything.”

“I used to wish you would notice me more.”

“But that was before.”

“Now, neither you nor that ring means anything to me.”

“I’m not interested in the future you’re offering.”

The color slowly drained from Ethan’s face.

“Emma… do you really mean that?”

Snow kept piling up around us.

I looked at him calmly.

“When you all sat around planning how to ruin my engagement party behind my back, didn’t you mean every word you said then?”

“Don’t come back.”

“You’re not welcome here.”

Then I turned and went inside.

I never looked at his face again.

After that, my life stayed peaceful.

No one from the past came to disturb me.
