He Accused Me Of Stealing But I Heard The Truth Chapter 06

When Rachel entered his office with coffee, he was studying a scanned document on his screen.

“You haven’t eaten all day.” She set the cup down, her gaze falling to the monitor as her fingers trembled slightly.

“You still don’t believe me?”

Derek didn’t look up.

“I’m checking what I signed.”

Tears welled in Rachel’s eyes almost instantly.

“You’re the one who told me to handle Erin’s departure. You said to give her enough money so she’d never come back. I only found out after I gave her the paperwork that she’d already planned everything with that painter.”

“The account was never activated,” Derek said, finally looking at her. “Explain that.”

“Of course she wouldn’t use the main account. She hated you. She’d never swipe a card with the Weston name on it. She must have had that man open an offshore company. Give me a few days, and I’ll find it.”

Derek said nothing.

He opened another old file.

“You said Erin put cashew syrup in your protein drink. Is there any security footage?”

Rachel froze for a second.

“That was six years ago. You saw her carry the drink into the office with your own eyes. I could barely breathe, and you rushed me to the ER yourself.”

The truth was, Derek didn’t remember the details of that day clearly.

He only remembered Rachel collapsed on the floor and Erin standing by the door, insisting she hadn’t touched the drink. He had cut her off before she could finish.

[Why was there a clump of unmixed nut paste under the lid?]

[Erin was wearing disposable gloves when she carried the tray. Rachel had paste of the same color on her thumb.]

He hadn’t noticed any of it back then.

“I want the real money trail for that relocation fund in three days,” Derek said, closing his laptop. “And from now on, you are not to access Maisie’s records, billing, or visitation logs.”

For a brief moment, something in Rachel’s carefully composed expression finally cracked.
