He Accused Me Of Stealing But I Heard The Truth Chapter 29
The room was silent for several seconds.
A reporter asked, “Mr. Weston, will you be recovering the funds controlled by Ms. Lane?”
“Yes. Every asset that belongs to Erin will be returned. Whether she accepts it is a matter for her and her lawyer.”
“Will the board ask you to resign?”
“That is the board’s right. I will accept the consequences of my actions.”
By the time the video of the press conference reached the hospital room, Maisie could already recognize Derek’s voice.
She was lying with her head in my lap.
“Mommy, why does he keep saying sorry? Does he know he was wrong now?”
I turned the video off.
“Knowing you were wrong doesn’t make the past disappear. But at least he’s finally willing to tell the truth.”
Maisie set a little paper boat she had folded into my palm.
“Are you still mad at him?”
I put the paper boat on the bedside table and let out a slow breath.
“We’re going to live our own life from now on. A life where he isn’t a part of every single day.”
“What about Derek?”
“He has to learn how not to hurt people anymore.”
Rachel’s case moved slowly through the system.
She hired a top criminal defense team, claimed the diverted funds were a simple management error, and tried to push responsibility for the illegal clinic onto operators who had since vanished.
The judge granted her pretrial release but ordered her to surrender her passport and have no contact with me, Maisie, or any other witnesses.
The prosecutor requested an asset freeze. My lawyer also filed civil claims and demanded records from every company she controlled.
Life finally grew a little quieter.
Derek stopped appearing at the hospital without warning, and no more agreements arrived via his assistants.
