He Accused Me Of Stealing But I Heard The Truth Chapter 43

“I acted like a man who would do that,” he said. “I handed her money and instructions, and I gave her far too much authority. Those are my faults.”

Hope flickered in Rachel’s eyes.

“But,” Derek continued, “I did not tell her to steal the money, forge a signature, or send Erin to that clinic. The moment I learned the truth, I turned the bank records, system logs, and payment receipts over to the police.”

The defense lawyer gave a cold smile.

“That was after you discovered you had a daughter. Of course you needed to pin everything on your secretary.”

“I’m not pinning everything on her,” Derek said. “I have already publicly admitted that I never verified a single fact, that I tried to control Erin, and that when Maisie was critically ill, I tried to force her to give up custody. Those responsibilities are mine to bear, forever.”

“But that does not turn what Rachel did into my orders.”

In the end, Rachel insisted on testifying herself.

She claimed the escrow had only been meant to protect the assets, the acknowledgment was a routine form, and that many people had access to the clinic vehicle. The drugs, she suggested, could have been purchased in her company’s name by the clinic operators themselves.

The prosecutor projected the acknowledgment and the clinic consent forms side by side on the screen.

“Why do these two signatures align perfectly?”

“Erin had already signed once,” Rachel answered smoothly.
