He Cheated With My Friend My Parents Helped Chapter 03

My father’s voice followed. “She has her OB appointment tomorrow. We can shop the day after. Tell Gabe to call Margot and say he’s extending his trip by a day.”

Gabriel’s voice was calm, matter-of-fact.

“Okay. I’ll video Mags later and tell her another meeting came up.”

In a spoiled whine, Sienna asked my mother to help her take off her boots, then asked my father to go wash some fruit for her.

As Gabriel started up the stairs, he took out his phone.

“I’m going back to the room to call Mags.”

He had just reached the doorway when my phone, lying on the floor inside the room, began to ring.

The moment he saw me, his phone slipped from his grasp and clattered onto the hardwood floor.

That was when I noticed he was wearing a prosthetic eye. The fit was so good it looked almost normal.

Back then, I had begged him to get one, but he always refused.

“I need to look at this every day to remember my lesson,” he had said. “I won’t make the same mistake again.”

Only now did I understand.

He only wanted me to remember that eye—and the two conditions that came with it.

“Mags… how are you here?”

Gabriel’s face was a mask of panic. He reached for me, and I instinctively recoiled.

My parents heard the commotion and rushed upstairs.

The second my father saw me, he demanded, “We had an agreement. Once a year. Why are you here without calling?”

A laugh escaped me, sharp and humorless, though tears were still streaming down my face.

“If I hadn’t come, how would I have ever known you’ve been hiding Sienna here for Gabriel?”

For the past three years, every Christmas, my parents had insisted on booking a restaurant.

They always said they were tired of cooking at home. And after dinner, they never let me drive them back.

“I haven’t walked through this door in three years. Now the passcode is Sienna’s birthday, and my bedroom has been turned into the set Gabriel uses to fake his business trips.”
