He Chose Another Heir Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 49

He handed me two documents.

The first was the new paternity test. The subjects were Luca and the boy, Milo. The conclusion was clear: no biological relationship.

The second was from an internal Rossi family meeting.

The advisor had established that the sample submitted for bloodline verification six years ago had been switched. The doctor who signed off had been expelled from the Rossi family and stripped of all protection. Ophelia’s status as wife, obtained through a false bloodline claim, was revoked.

Milo, having had no part in the deception, would remain under Rossi protection until adulthood.

At the very end of the file was one more line.

Luca had voluntarily accepted full responsibility for entering the child into the line of succession without an independent review. He had surrendered the underboss’s signet ring and withdrawn from the line of succession.

Dante opened a muted video on his phone.

At the far end of a long table, Luca stood alone. He took off the black-and-silver signet ring he had worn for twelve years and placed it before the head of the Rossi family. One by one, the capos lowered their gaze, no longer affording him the respect due an heir.

He hadn’t just lost a position.

He had lost the power he had spent his life training to wield, the name that had once made an entire city step aside.

At the end of the video, Luca took out the engagement ring I had returned six years ago, clenched it in his palm, and lowered his head.

“He didn’t argue for himself,” Dante said. “And he didn’t ask to keep his place.”
