He Chose Her Over Me So I Chose Myself Chapter 13
The Bentley door opened and Grant got out, followed by my adoptive father and mother, who appeared at the studio door.
Grant’s gaze moved from the rainbow glass in my hands to Eli’s face, then back to me.
My adoptive mother’s face was livid. My adoptive father said nothing.
“Do you have any idea how much shame you’ve brought on the Mercer family all over Boston?” she demanded.
Grant stared at Eli. “Who is he?”
“No wonder you had the nerve to run out on your wedding.” My adoptive mother let out a cold laugh. “So you already had someone new lined up. We didn’t raise you for you to be this ungrateful.”
Anger surged through my chest. I was about to speak when Eli calmly picked up his coat.
“I’ll be at the café on the corner,” he said, looking only at me. “Text me if you need me.”
He didn’t make decisions for me, and he didn’t force me to explain.
Grant, on the other hand, barked out a command the way he always had.
“When you’ve had enough of this, you’re coming back with me.”
All at once, I was completely calm.
“Our engagement is over.”
His expression turned stormy. “June, are you giving up the Mercer family, too?”
I looked at them, my voice light but leaving no room for retreat.
“Grant, I’m not the one who was never wanted.”
