He Erased Me From The Photo I Erased Him From My Life Chapter 14
On his way back from the law firm, Owen ran into Liam in the lobby of his apartment building.
Liam stopped him. “Did you see Natalie in Denver?”
“I did.”
“So, when is she coming back?”
Owen tightened his grip on the legal file in his hand and said calmly, “She’s not. I blew it.”
Liam was quiet for a moment, then said in a low voice, “We always said she didn’t really fit in. We kept telling her to be the bigger person about Sloane. I said some shitty things, too. I’m sorry, man.”
Owen said nothing.
Liam added, “Some of the things Sloane’s done lately have been… a lot. She’s been asking about you—”
“Don’t talk to me about her anymore.”
Liam blinked, surprised.
In the past, no matter what kind of trouble Sloane stirred up, Owen always had an excuse ready. *She’s grieving. She’s raising a child alone. She has no one else to turn to.* He’d never run out of reasons.
This time, he left no room for any.
When he got back to his apartment, Owen pulled a black trash bag from the kitchen.
The framed photo of Sloane and Lucy from the entryway table, the stuffed rabbit from the couch cushions, the child-sized toothbrush from the bathroom, the hair clip Lucy had left in the guest room—he swept them all into the bag.
Finally, he tied it shut and set it outside the door for the trash.
The apartment was finally free of any trace of Sloane.
And of Natalie, too.
