He Gave My Ring To Her Now He Wears His Regret Chapter 03
At lunch, Alessia got seasick, and Nico hovered by her side the entire time.
My stomach hurt too badly to eat, so I asked a server if I could have a bowl of plain chicken soup instead.
Leo laughed.
“What, Virginia, now you’re not feeling well, too? Don’t tell me you’re copying Alessia.”
The others chuckled.
Nico looked up at me.
“Haven’t you always been fine on boats?”
I tried to explain. “I didn’t have breakfast. My stomach just hurts.”
He lowered his eyes, handing a glass of warm water to Alessia.
“Then just deal with it. She’s the one who’s really feeling awful.”
The server brought the soup over.
I had barely reached for it when Nico intercepted the bowl and pushed it in front of Alessia.
“Drink some.”
My hand froze in midair.
It was my soup.
No one else at the table seemed to think there was anything wrong with what he’d done.
Alessia took two sips, then frowned.
“It’s bland. I don’t want it.”
She pushed the bowl toward me.
“Virginia, your stomach hurts, right? Here.”
She had already stirred the soup.
Her lipstick stained the edge of the spoon.
Before, I probably would have taken it.
Alessia would have said we were close enough not to be so picky.
Nico would have said I never used to make a fuss over little things.
This time, I looked directly at the server.
“Please take it away.”
Alessia’s expression hardened.
“I only had two sips. Are you refusing it because I touched it?”
I kept my voice calm. “I don’t eat other people’s leftovers.”
Nico’s face darkened.
“She’s sick, and she was still thoughtful enough to offer it to you,” he snapped. “Do you have to embarrass her like this?”
I looked at the five of them around the table, and a montage of similar moments flashed through my mind.
Them pushing an unfinished pizza in my direction.
Sending me to a separate table when a restaurant couldn’t seat all of us together.
Telling me to get an Uber when the car was one seat short.
Handing me a phone whenever they wanted a group photo.
But if I said no, even once, I was the one being difficult.
“Sorry,” I said.
Just like that, the tension at the table dissolved.
Marco laughed.
“That’s more like it. We’re on vacation—try to have some fun.”
I smiled, too.
My apology wasn’t because I thought I was wrong.
I was just too tired to argue anymore.
That night, they kept drinking at the hotel’s terrace bar.
I went back to the room alone and started packing my suitcase.
The trip was supposed to last seven days. We were only on day three.
I was done.
I booked the earliest flight back to New York for the next morning.
Only then did I realize my phone charger was missing.
I remembered Alessia borrowing it earlier, so I went to her room to get it.
The door was unlocked, and the room was empty.
On the bedside table, an iPad screen lit up.
A new message had just appeared.
The group name was The Five Forever.
Marco had sent a video.
It was the clip of Nico kissing Alessia last night.
Messages flooded the screen.
> Finally.
> Told you this would work.
> Virginia’s face was hilarious.
> Can you believe she’s still pretending she’s fine?
