He Gave My Ring To Her Now He Wears His Regret Chapter 08

On the trip back, without me, the entire itinerary fell apart.

No one had arranged the airport transfer. No one had confirmed the luggage allowance.

Alessia left her passport at the hotel, and Marco couldn’t get a refund for the surfing lesson he’d booked.

Panic began to set in.

Leo couldn’t help but complain, “The least Virginia could have done was tell us the rest of the plan.”

Nico looked up at him, his gaze cold.

“Why should she?”

Leo was taken aback.

“Because she’s always the one who handles this stuff.”

Yes. I always was.

They were used to me booking their flights, checking the weather, and packing a kit of common medications for everyone.

They were used to me settling the bill on Venmo after every dinner and drink.

They were used to handing me the phone whenever they wanted a group picture.

They were also used to sending me to a separate table, making me sleep on the living room sofa, and expecting me to eat their leftovers.

Because I had never truly refused.

Marco tried to smooth things over.

“Come on. She’s just being emotional.”

“Once we get back to New York, Nico can say a few nice things, and this will all be over.”

Nico said nothing.

He opened my Instagram.

My latest post was from six months ago.

It was a travel photo of the five of them.

They were standing by the ocean. I was nowhere in the frame.

My caption read:

> Another day as the designated photographer.

At the time, Nico had commented:

> You’re good at it.

Looking at it now, he finally understood.

I had been telling them, in the gentlest way I knew how.

And not a single one of them had ever turned around to look at me.
