He Killed Me Then Loved Me Chapter 06

Charles had been exceptionally nice to me in those days. He made me breakfast every morning and even bought me expensive gifts.

Even the taunts in my class had vanished. No one dared to bully me anymore.

No one would have guessed that under these circumstances, I’d tell Arnold I liked him in the most public way possible.

There were a lot of onlookers.

By the time Charles rushed to the scene, Arnold and I were locked in a tight embrace.

“Catalina, let go of him!”

A cold voice rang out. If you listened closely, it was slightly trembling.

Before I could say anything, Vanessa spat, “You cheap slut! First, you throw yourself at Charles, then you cheat on him? Rot in hell!”

The crowd around us started murmuring.

“Holy crap. The golden boy totally made a fool of himself this time.”

“No kidding. He’s been simping for Catalina, and here she is, pouring her heart out to Arnold.”

“Charles’s gonna be a laughingstock for, like, forever.”

The veins on Charles’s forehead were bulging. He yanked me toward him and threw me over his shoulder.

I struggled, not knowing where he was taking me.

He brought me to the hotel his family owned and hurled me hard onto the bed. Then his heated body pressed down on me, pinning me there.

He was barely holding it together. He stared at me, his gaze fierce, his voice thick with confusion. “Why?

“You promised me at the river that day. You said you’d be with me after the SAT.

“So why did you tell Arnold you liked him?”

I turned my head away and wouldn’t look at him.

After a few seconds of silence, he suddenly let out a cold sneer. Like something had just clicked in his head, he said, “So you were just stalling me?

“You never liked me at all, did you?”

I bit my lower lip hard and glared at him intently. Then I said loudly, “That’s right. I never liked you.

“You’re twisted, possessive. Why the hell would I ever like a psycho like you?”

The atmosphere in the room went dead still for a few seconds.

Then he started stripping. He gripped my neck and kissed me hard, a faint metallic taste spreading between our lips.

The second before he tore off my underwear, the room door was kicked open. Arnold rushed in, followed by a bunch of reporters. He quickly took off his coat and wrapped it around me.

It hit the trending topics in no time. Videos of Charles bullying me on campus went viral right alongside it.

The internet was in an uproar. People were calling for him to be castrated.

The buzz just wouldn’t die down, so Damian finally stepped in. “Lina, let me apologize on behalf of that brat. Just drop this, okay?”

He made light of it, like it was nothing. His arrogance was staggering.

I lifted my eyes and reminded him, my tone flat, “Mr. Spence, I call the shots on how this goes.”

Hearing this, he finally took me seriously. He let out a cold snort, his tone dismissive. “Tell me. What do you want?”

I thought it over for a moment, then said calmly, “I want money. And a transfer to another school. I don’t want Charles to ever find me again.”

“Okay.”

Finally, I was free.

When I was packing to leave, Arnold came to see me off. His smile was as gentle as ever.

But I knew. To help me deal with Charles, he’d lost his right to fight for family assets.

The Spence family was untouchable in Chicago. Now that Arnold had crossed them, there was no way Damian would let him off. And I was powerless to do anything about it. I had no connections, no background. Nothing.

Arnold was the only one I could rely on. The only one kind enough to help me.

He patted my head and smiled, carefree, “Lina, be happy every day.”

I hugged him, fighting back the tears with everything I had. “You too.”

He didn’t turn to leave until he saw me board the train out of Chicago.

The tension that had been wound so tight inside me finally snapped. I leaned back in my seat and drifted off into a heavy, groggy sleep.

Memories from my previous life replayed in my mind, clear as day.

Back then, Charles’s torment had nearly driven me out of my mind. I had no idea why he hated me so much. All I could do was cling desperately to any lifeline I could find.

Once, by chance, I overheard someone say that Arnold from the next class was ridiculously soft-hearted. He rescued stray cats and dogs. Even watered the half-dead flowers and plants by the curb.

A plan immediately formed in my mind.

I asked around and found out he liked sitting alone on the rooftop, just feeling the wind. So one day, after Vanessa had cursed me out and beaten me up, I went up there and sobbed pitifully in a small voice.

Just as I expected, I ran into him there.
