He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 19
Rowan had changed. He’d gone from being a block of ice who was cluelessly hurtful to a block of ice who said all the wrong things at all the wrong times.
Rowan alone was enough of a problem. Then Evan decided to make things more complicated.
After one performance, he walked right up to me.
“Olivia, I like you.”
My phone nearly slipped from my hand.
“I started to see it when I was reading your script. The way you write people… it makes me think you deserve to be taken seriously by someone.”
I hesitated.
“Evan…”
He smiled, cutting me off gently.
“Don’t say no yet. Just think about it, okay?”
He didn’t wait for an answer, just turned and walked away, leaving me standing there.
When I finally looked up, I saw Rowan.
He was leaning against the far wall of the hallway. I had no idea how long he’d been standing there. The smell of alcohol coming off him was strong.
I frowned.
Rowan could be called into the hospital at any moment; he almost never drank.
“Did you say yes to him?”
His tone was detached, as if he were a scientist collecting data.
“I couldn’t hear what you said.”
He stared at the floor for a moment, then looked back at me.
“He seems like he’d be good at taking care of someone. Like he knows how to love a person. You might like him.”
“Maybe,” I said.
He went still, then forced the words out.
“But I’m learning, too. I’m learning how to love you.”
I didn’t want to hear any more. I started to walk past him.
He grabbed my arm. Only then did I notice his other hand was pressed against his upper abdomen.
“Liv, I don’t feel well.”
I paused for a few seconds, then pulled my arm free.
“Then you should find a doctor. I can’t help you.”
First confusion, then a kind of raw pain I had never seen before, flashed in his eyes.
His fingers tightened over his stomach.
I didn’t look back.
