He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 21
In the end, I went to the hospital.
I walked up to his room and was about to knock when I saw someone through the window in the door.
Mia was standing beside the bed, bent over, her arms wrapped around Rowan’s shoulders in a tight hug.
My breath caught. I turned to leave.
Then Rowan’s voice, clear and firm, came from inside the room.
“Mia, you need to give me some space.”
When I looked back, he had already pushed her away.
“We’re adults. When you hug me like that, it gives people the wrong impression about our relationship.”
Mia stiffened, then forced a smile.
“Did Olivia say something to you?”
“What does this have to do with her?”
Rowan sounded genuinely confused.
Mia stared at him, and her voice suddenly shot up, sharp with frustration.
“Because I *wanted* you to get the wrong impression! I’ve liked you since we were kids.”
“Why do you think I always called you first whenever I was sick or in trouble? Did you really think I couldn’t book my own doctor’s appointment or call a car to the hospital?”
Rowan looked stunned.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know.”
He paused.
“If I had known, I would have kept my distance from the start.”
Mia’s voice cracked.
“What did you just say?”
“I already like someone.”
“But you broke up!”
“That doesn’t change anything.”
Rowan’s voice was calm.
“I like her. That doesn’t require her to do anything for me in return.”
I lifted my eyes to the sterile hallway ceiling. After a moment, I let go of the doorknob and walked away.
