He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 33

“Which sentence in the retraction wasn’t true?”

Her face went pale.

“If it weren’t for you, Ro wouldn’t be treating me like this.”

“Rowan’s right across the street.”

I glanced outside.

He’d just had a follow-up for his arm and had promised to pick me up. He hadn’t come inside, and he hadn’t tried to throw anyone out on my behalf.

“You can go ask him yourself.”

Mia crossed the street in a huff.

I didn’t follow. The glass door muffled most of the sound, but I could see her talking at him, her hands gesturing wildly.

Rowan listened, then shook his head.

Mia suddenly grabbed his sleeve.

He stepped back, pulling his arm free.

A few minutes later, she walked away, defeated.

Rowan came into the theater.

“What did she say?” I asked.

“She said you made me misunderstand our relationship.”

“And what did you say?”

“I said that every time I prioritized her, and every time I ignored you, it was my choice. Just because she had feelings for me doesn’t mean I get to blame my mistakes on her.”

I was a little surprised.

“And who taught you that one?”

He thought for a moment.

“You did.”

“I never said that.”

“You taught me that adults are responsible for their own decisions.”

I looked at him.

He asked carefully, “Did I get it right?”

“Barely.”

He smiled.

Snow had started falling again outside. We stood there for a while, watching it through the glass.

Mia never came back.
