He Left Me For My Sister Now He Begs For Me Back Chapter 15
As he was leaving, he watched me for a moment before asking, “Did Sebastian come to see you?”
I blinked.
“How did you know?”
“I saw him.”
I remembered seeing a black SUV parked at the corner of our street that day, its plates from the Royal Guard’s border command.
“Oh.”
He was silent. So was I.
Finally, he spoke first.
“If you regret this…”
I looked up sharply.
His expression was calm.
“There’s still time. Our claiming hasn’t been completed, and the Pack Council has only done the preliminary registration. If you say you don’t want this, I’ll withdraw the application myself.”
I stared at him.
“You’re not angry?”
“I am.”
He answered so quickly it took me by surprise.
Then he continued.
“But this is your marriage, not one of my military campaigns. I can’t forcibly claim it just because it’s what I want.”
It was the first time anyone had ever put it that way.
Liking someone didn’t mean you owned them.
Wanting something didn’t mean you could just take it.
So there were people who lived by rules like that.
I shook my head.
“I don’t regret it.”
Gavin held my gaze.
“You’re sure?”
“Yes.”
“Not to get back at Sebastian?”
“No.”
“And not just to leave the Crawford family?”
I paused.
“That’s part of it.”
He didn’t seem offended. He just asked, “And the rest?”
I looked up at him.
He stood in the fading winter light, his eyes dark, carrying the scent of cedar and cold wind. It wasn’t the pull of a fated mate bond. It was simply the presence of a man who made me feel safe.
A sudden shyness came over me.
“The rest is because you’re a good man.”
He said nothing, but the tips of his ears slowly turned red.
That was the first time I learned that the famously stoic border commander could blush at a single compliment.
