He Left Our Daughter To Drown But I Saved The Footage Chapter 18
I asked my assistant to stay with Maisie and stepped outside.
Carrying the soccer ball, Evan crossed the street and stopped in front of me.
“She used to love this more than anything.”
“That was before.”
I looked at him.
“She likes to draw now. And she doesn’t want to see you.”
His hand slowly dropped to his side.
“Can I leave a letter for her?”
“You can. Whether she reads it is up to her.”
He was silent for a moment.
“Brooke got three years.”
“I know.”
Then he asked,
“If I had come back that day, would everything still have ended up like this?”
“No.”
I told him the truth.
“It wasn’t one afternoon that destroyed everything. It was when you transferred our emergency fund to her. It was when you missed our daughter’s games to be at hers.”
I paused.
“It was every single time our daughter needed you, and you chose someone else.”
He looked physically ill. After a long silence, he whispered,
“I’m sorry.”
But those two words couldn’t change anything now.
I turned and went back into the studio, closing the door firmly behind me.
Maisie immediately ran over and wrapped her arms around my leg.
“Did he leave?”
I stroked her hair.
“He’s gone.”
She let out a breath she’d been holding and buried her face against me.
I held her tighter.
The afternoon sun streamed in, illuminating the walls of paintings, and the whole room felt warm.
