He Left Our Daughter To Drown But I Saved The Footage Chapter 29
The day Maisie stepped back onto the soccer field, the sky was overcast.
I asked if she wanted to reschedule.
She just tightened her laces and shook her head.
“The forecast only said light rain.”
Once practice started, she ran hard, staying in the middle of the pack.
The first time she missed a pass, she didn’t glance toward the sideline like she used to. She chased the ball down and won it back herself.
The second time, she sent a clean pass right to her teammate’s feet.
Jenna stood beside me, her eyes a little misty.
“She used to look for Evan after every single play.”
“Not anymore.”
I watched my daughter, my heart full.
“Now she’s looking to see where she needs to run next.”
Halfway through practice, the rain began to fall.
A low rumble of thunder rolled in the distance. Maisie’s movements faltered.
The coach’s whistle, the rain, the drainage ditch bordering the field.
The color drained from her face.
The ball rolled past her, but she didn’t seem to see it. She looked like she was back on that dining table, her fingers so stiff she couldn’t move.
I didn’t run onto the field.
I just stood on the sideline and opened my arms.
When Maisie saw me, she ran.
