He Let Me Bleed So I Let Him Go Chapter 19

She had even suspected that Luca simply wanted a front-row seat to Dante’s downfall.

Perhaps he wanted to witness firsthand how the head of the De Luca family neglected his wife, then use that failure as a weapon at the negotiating table.

But in those six months, Luca never once appeared.

No calls. No messages. No staged incidents.

He was so silent that Elena had begun to wonder if their conversation had ever even happened.

The facts, however, spoke for themselves.

He had won.

And there had been no suspense at all.

In those six months, Dante had never once chosen her, never once sought the truth before siding with Bianca.

He hadn’t known she was pregnant.

He hadn’t known she’d been in a car accident.

He hadn’t known she had terminated the pregnancy, or that she had nearly died in surgery.

On the night he came to take her away, Luca had been in the car himself.

The sedan had pulled up to the curb.

When he saw her huddled in that tattered trench coat, the corner of his mouth had tilted into a slight smile.

Elena couldn’t help but ask, “Why are you smiling? Does seeing the De Luca Don’s wife stripped of her protection give you that much satisfaction?”

Luca’s smile had only deepened.

“I just think Dante is pathetic.”

“I gave him six months. Six full months, and not once did he make you feel safe. Not once did he protect you when it mattered.”

Elena had stood there by the open car door, stunned into silence.

Luca didn’t press her.

After a long moment, she lowered her head and got into the car.

Before the door closed, she heard him say, very quietly, “If it were me, no other man would ever get the chance to make you doubt yourself.”
