He Locked Me Out Now He’s Begging Me Back Chapter 13

But when it came to his own job, suddenly work was untouchable.

“That’s different,” he said irritably. “My meeting was scheduled a long time ago.”

“My work has never been a hobby.”

He was quiet for a moment, then finally relented.

“Fine. I’ll have my mom pick him up.”

Then he lowered his voice again. “Claire, things are chaotic enough already. Can you stop nitpicking every little thing and think about the bigger picture, okay?”

I didn’t answer.

His so-called bigger picture was just everyone else getting to keep things exactly as they were while I kept giving ground.

After Daniel left, I immediately opened my laptop and logged into Noah’s school parent portal.

I submitted a written notice stating clearly that I was to be removed from the emergency contact list and the authorized pickup list. From now on, in the event of illness, early dismissal, or pickup issues, the school should contact only his legal guardian, Tessa, and his grandfather, Daniel.

Ten minutes later, the school replied to confirm the change.

I archived the email and opened a new one.

The recipient was the divorce lawyer Marisol had recommended.

The subject line was simple:

*Consultation Regarding Divorce and Property Division.*

In the body of the email, I listed the length of our marriage, the ownership structure of the house, the fact that Daniel had unilaterally changed our living arrangement, and my request for an order to protect my property interest.

When I finished typing the last sentence, I realized I wasn’t afraid.

I looked at the Send button for a long moment.

Then I clicked it.

Message sent.
