He Locked Me Out Now He’s Begging Me Back Chapter 18

Then a new round of crying erupted from the main house, followed by Daniel’s mother’s voice rising sharply.

He glanced back, his tone slipping into his usual soothing mode.

“Don’t go yet. My mom came tonight to help with Noah, and Tessa’s not doing well. Let me handle things over there first, and then we’ll talk.”

Again.

Their needs came first.

I let go of the suitcase handle and sat down on the folding chair.

“All right. I’ll wait.”

Relief washed over Daniel’s face. He hurried back to the main house.

Half an hour later, he returned. When he saw the zipped suitcase, his steps faltered.

“Claire, I’ve thought about it. I owe you an apology for the lock permissions. I’ll also talk to Tessa and tell her to start looking for a place. Just don’t take this too far.”

“Too late.”

I stood and pulled up the suitcase handle.

“I’m leaving tonight.”

That was when I noticed two unfamiliar travel bags against the wall, and Daniel’s mother’s coat lying on the folding bed.

“Why are your mother’s bags in here?”

“She’s staying for a few days to help Tessa with Noah.”

I looked at the narrow folding bed, only wide enough for one person.
