He Priced Me At A Penny So I Married Another Chapter 34

She knew I didn’t want strangers gathering around that tear and staring at it again.

The conference room door suddenly flew open.

Tori came storming out first.

“You can’t make me carry this alone! Derek apologized and everybody praised him for being honest. I told the truth, so why am I the one at fault?”

Derek came out behind her. He saw me and stopped in the doorway.

“No one praised me.”

His voice was low.

“I signed because I really did those things.”

Tori turned and jabbed a finger at him.

“You admitted it because you still want her to forgive you!”

“She won’t forgive me.”

When Derek said that, he didn’t look at me.

“And she doesn’t need to.”

Mrs. Lawson came out of the room and dropped her bag hard onto a chair.

“Enough. How much more face do you two plan to lose over this?”

The lawyer set the document in front of her.

“Face is not covered by today’s agreement. Please do not disturb my client.”

Mrs. Lawson opened her mouth.

People were passing at the other end of the hallway, and in the end, she lowered her voice.

“Tori, just sign. If this goes to trial, the videos will still be played in open court.”

Tori looked at Derek.

Maybe she was still waiting for him to take the burden for her, the way she had waited for him to shield her after every joke before.

Derek sat in the chair farthest from her.

After a long while, Tori picked up the pen.

Under the agreement, she would delete all related content, keep a public correction posted for thirty days, pay for the textile repair, the moving costs, and the legal fees, and refrain from ever again using my photo, my name, or my marriage to invent stories.

After signing the last page, she threw the pen on the table.

“Happy now?”

I closed my file.

“This was never about making me happy.”

“It was about making you stop.”

The stamped agreement was taken back into the conference room.

This time, no one asked me to give them a graceful way out.
