He Protected My Baby’s Killer So I Left Him Chapter 06
At one-thirty, he had promised he would pick me up.
But then Isabella called, saying she’d broken a glass and cut her foot.
So all four of them went to her instead.
The cut was less than a centimeter long.
The doctor hadn’t even given her stitches, just a Band-Aid.
But they stayed with her, took her shopping for things for the apartment, and then had dinner with her.
Not one of them remembered that I was still waiting for them in the hotel lobby.
Marco asked in a low voice, “Did she sign the surgical consent form herself?”
“Yes.”
The nurse let out a short, cold laugh.
“After she signed, she asked me if she could leave the emergency contact section blank.”
“In all my years as a nurse, I’ve never seen a phone with four emergency contacts where not a single one could be reached.”
Matteo braced a hand against the wall, his knuckles white.
Only then did it truly hit him. When I’d texted, *The doctor says I can’t go alone,* I wasn’t throwing a tantrum. I wasn’t trying to force them to choose.
I was genuinely asking for help.
And all four of them had promised they would be there, only to leave me completely alone.
The nurse turned to leave, but Matteo followed her.
“How is she now?”
“She’s stable, for now.”
“Then which hospital was she transferred to?”
“Her parents requested that her information be kept confidential.”
The nurse paused.
“They also asked me to pass along a message.”
“Don’t ever refer to yourselves as Soleil’s family again.”
“You’re not.”
The hallway fell silent.
After a long moment, Matteo took out his phone and called the wedding planning company.
When the planner answered, her voice was hesitant.
“Mr. Matteo, the wedding has already been canceled.”
“Ms. Soleil paid the cancellation fee in full.”
“The dress, the venue, the guest accommodations—it’s all been canceled.”
Matteo swallowed hard.
“When was this canceled?”
“The day after she was admitted to the hospital.”
So I hadn’t just been angry.
The night he stayed by Isabella’s side, I had already ended our ten-year relationship.
