He Saved Her Seat Not Our Baby Chapter 09

When Cloud Cabin made its maiden test flight, Ethan was stopped at the boarding gate.

The staff said: “Mr. Ward, you’re not on the guest list.”

“I just want to see Claire.”

“Ms. Claire has already boarded.”

Ethan glanced at his watch.

“There are still three minutes before takeoff.”

“The cabin door is already closed.”

He had once said those same words to me.

Now he stood on the other side of the glass, watching the plane taxi slowly toward the runway.

No one waited an extra minute for him.

After the test flight, Cloud Cabin secured a long-term contract with an international aviation group.

The lead designer field carried only my name.

Lily was convicted on charges of forgery and illegal acquisition of prescription medication.

Mark Lawson’s wife filed for divorce and sued to recover the properties her husband had gifted to Lily.

Every position, every project, every future Lily had once claimed as hers—none of it remained.

Ward Group’s board conducted a full audit of the past three years and discovered that multiple contracts Lily had handled involved kickbacks and self-dealing.

Ethan sold his private jet and two personal properties to cover the company’s losses.

By the time the dust had settled, he was no longer Mr. Ward.

He waited for me at the airport for an entire day.

When I emerged from the VIP corridor, he was holding a small cardboard box, his suit wrinkled beyond recognition.

“Claire, it’s the little airplane.”

He opened the box.

The broken-winged airplane had been glued back together.

“I didn’t dare throw it away for you.”

I looked at it for a moment, then took the box.

A flicker of light rose in Ethan’s eyes.

But I dropped it into the recycling bin beside me.

The color drained from his face, slowly, completely.

“Claire, I can wait. Until you’re willing to give me one more chance.”

I looked at him calmly. “Waiting is your own business.”

His eyes reddened. “I know. I won’t ask you to respond, and I won’t intrude on your life.”

“Then why are you here today?”

Ethan clenched his fists.

“I just wanted to tell you—everything with Lily is settled. I’ve stepped down from Ward Group. No one will ever take your place again.”

I looked at him, my voice even.

“My place no longer needs you to save it for me.”
