He Scorned My Love Now He Watches My Rise Chapter 12

Colton gripped the phone, his throat working.

“I looked into the watch.”

“Mm-hm.”

“You saved for half a year to buy it.”

“So?”

He seemed caught off guard by my calm.

“I didn’t know that at the time.”

“Didn’t know, or never bothered to ask?”

He fell silent.

I stood in the hallway of the project building, watching the sun set in the distance.

“Colton, the saleswoman was right there, and I had the receipt in my hand. If you’d asked one question, you would have known.”

“But Bianca said I was a gold digger trying to use the claim to climb higher, and you believed her.”

“No. I was just… influenced by her in the moment.”

“The first time, too?”

I asked it softly.

“She lied and told me you’d been wounded by a silver blade. You lay there in the clinic watching me cry, and you laughed with them.”

“The second time, my mother was in the hospital with a high fever. I spent five hours on a bus to come back to you. And you still just stood there and watched them laugh.”

“Every single time, you were just influenced by her?”

His breathing grew ragged.

“I’m sorry.”

I smiled a little.

“That apology got here faster than your trust ever did.”

Then I hung up.

Back at the club, Bianca stared at Colton.

“Is she digging up old dirt again to make you feel sorry for her? Colt, don’t forget—she’s always been good at seizing opportunities.”

Colton lifted his head.

“Are you still talking?”

“Am I wrong? Everyone was just joking back then.”

“You used a fake silver injury to trick her while her mother was in the hospital. That was a joke, too?”
