He Scorned My Love Now He Watches My Rise Chapter 29

On the day the transport line officially opened, a light rain fell over Gray Harbor.

My team and I stood outside the newly built transfer station and watched the first freight truck pass the checkpoint.

On the electronic display, the next phase of route planning had just refreshed.

Cedar Pass.

Red Sand.

Gray Harbor.

I froze for a second.

The director smiled. “The next phase connects to your hometown. The application was just approved.”

I looked up at the words *Cedar Pass*.

There was no prestigious bloodline there. No powerful families.

Before, when people mentioned my hometown, it was only to remind me that I wasn’t worthy of someone else.

Soon, it would be an official node on the line I managed.

My mother stood beside me, her eyes reddening before mine did.

“When you were little, you always said the mountain roads were too narrow and nothing could be transported in or out.”

“It’ll be better now.”

After the ribbon-cutting, the Nightfall pack representative brought over the cooperation documents.

The signatory was not Colton.

There were no special terms from the Moretti family anywhere in the agreement.

In the project lead line, I signed my name.

Siobhan.

That one name was enough.

As the crowd dispersed, I saw Colton in the distance.

He wore the uniform of an ordinary patrol officer and stood guard near the entrance.

Our eyes met briefly through the rain.

He didn’t come over.

I didn’t stop.

My work phone rang, and the director up ahead called me to the next-phase meeting.

I quickened my steps to join them.

But my old phone buzzed one last time in my bag.

On the screen was the message Colton had sent three years ago.

[Are you back in Gray Harbor?]

All these years, I had never answered.

Standing under the awning, I pulled the old SIM card out and dropped it, along with the phone that had long since served its purpose, into a recycling bin.

Not out of spite.

Not for anyone else to see.

It just no longer belonged to the life that was waiting for me.
