He Signed My Freedom Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 12
A pack representative from Lucian’s academy days raised his glass.
“Back then, everyone at the academy knew Lucian was pursuing Vivian. If she hadn’t left for neutral territory, how would the Luna position have ever gone to anyone else?”
Someone nearby laughed. “Some people get the alliance and the pups but never get the Alpha’s heart. She’ll probably spend her whole life guarding an empty title.”
They talked about me as if I weren’t even there.
Ember heard every word, but she didn’t urge me to strike back. She only drew my attention away from the crowd and to the Luna crest on my chest.
In three more days, it would no longer be mine.
I left the banquet hall and took the elevator down.
Just before the doors shut, Vivian stepped inside, her heels clicking on the marble.
“The witness period ends in three days,” she said. “You’ll keep your word, won’t you?”
“Of course.” I pressed the button for the first floor. “I want this over more than you do.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of Highridge for you. And Lucian and the children, too.” She stepped closer, lowering her voice. “They’ll forget you very quickly.”
The elevator suddenly gave a violent, metallic lurch.
The car dropped half a floor and jammed between the walls with a shriek of protesting metal. The warped door pinned our legs, and the small space quickly filled with the scent of blood.
Pain made my hearing preternaturally sharp. Outside, I could hear guards trying to pry open the doors, and Lucian barking orders.
“Are the people inside all right?”
Vivian immediately started pounding on the door and screaming for help.
