He Stole My Children I Refused His Crown Chapter 16
My heart jolted.
I hadn’t realized Elliot’s investigation of Redhaven had started so early.
Through the car window, I looked toward Lucian’s estate.
“Not yet.”
“Damien, find a way to bring Celeste to me.”
Damien got out of the car and vanished into the night.
Maya was confused.
“Why do you want to see her?”
I smiled.
“I’m going to give Queen Helena a surprise she can’t control.”
Queen Helena was so confident Redhaven would obey her because Celeste still believed she could get back to Lucian’s side.
But after the miscarriage and being publicly cast aside, she must have understood one thing by now.
Lucian had never truly loved anyone.
He loved the throne and the feeling of others submitting to his will.
In that case, I would let the power he prized most drag him down into the mud.
“Willa!”
“Did you have me brought here just to see how pathetic I’ve become?”
Celeste’s face was pale, her body still weak from the miscarriage, but her voice was as sharp as ever.
In the Ironvale safe house, I poured two cups of hot tea.
“I already saw the joke at the theater. I asked you here to make a deal.”
She stared at me, then let out a sharp laugh. But as she laughed, tears began to fall.
“We’ve been enemies for years. What makes you think I’d ever work with you?”
I pushed a cup of tea toward her.
“Then what about Lucian?”
“You secretly terminated your first pregnancy for him, destroying your body and your reputation. This time, you lost his child at the gates of his estate, and he wouldn’t even let you into the royal medical wing.”
“He publicly declared you unfit to be his consort and left you to rot in his estate.”
“Celeste, when has he ever truly protected you?”
Her lashes trembled. Her nails dug into her palms.
