He Stole My Children I Refused His Crown Chapter 23
My father’s rough hand patted my back, the gesture clumsy but steady.
“What’s wrong? Weren’t you just saying you wanted to eat these?”
“Elliot sent word from the capital, telling me I had to bring them back for you.”
“Willa, all three crates are yours. No one is going to take them away.”
My eyes burned.
Footsteps sounded behind me.
Elliot strode into the Alpha residence, stopping a few feet away.
He first asked about my father’s injuries and the border handover.
As he spoke, his gaze met mine only a few times, and each time it slid away just as quickly.
My father seemed to suddenly remember something and headed for his study.
Maya found an excuse to leave as well.
Soon, only Elliot and I remained in the sitting room.
After a moment of silence, he took a hand-carved pendant from the inner pocket of his coat.
“I spent three years carving this.”
“From the moment I learned my true identity, I wanted to give it to you.”
His eyes were steady, but his hand was clenched tightly around the pendant.
“At the royal banquet, you said you already had someone you wanted to spend your life with, that you’d be engaged soon.”
“At the time, I thought that man was very lucky.”
“Then later I thought—why can’t that man be me?”
Elliot held the pendant out to me. At last, a faint tremor entered his voice.
“Willa Donovan, if you could choose your life all over again, would you choose me?”
My throat tightened.
The regret from my last life, the panic of stumbling into his studio, the cruel words I’d thrown at him—it all came rushing back.
